The Designer Edit with Joseph Namyst from Davis

HBF Textiles presents its next Designer Edit series with Joseph Namyst, Creative Director of Davis Furniture. Cultivated: Stewardship through Design explores our relationship with design through the lens of time, considering how we develop an eye for what endures across four chapters - Origins, Alchemy (Craft), Resonance, and Legacy.

Cherished patterns from HBF Textiles are paired with Davis Furniture materials and art and objects from Namyst’s personal collection, creating conversations between textile, furniture, and artifact. Through this highly personal perspective, Cultivated considers how designers learn to recognize and appreciate the materials, details, and craftsmanship that allow great design to remain relevant long after its introduction.

Joseph Namyst, Creative Director of Davis Furniture, brings a considered, material-first sensibility to the collaboration, shaped by a lifelong interest in the colors, materials, and objects we choose to surround ourselves with. By pairing newly released textiles with long-standing classics and collected pieces from around the world, the series looks beyond novelty to consider how thoughtful curation - and a trained eye - can reveal meaningful connections between designs.

Chapter 1: Origins - Where does good design begin?

Every enduring design begins with an honest origin. Stone becomes sculpture. Clay becomes ceramics. Timber becomes furniture. Fiber becomes textiles. Through craftsmanship and stewardship, their inherent qualities are revealed in enduring objects that continue to shape our interiors. Rather than concealing their origins, these objects celebrate them.

The Origins palette takes its cue from clay, stone, and timber. A tribute to the raw materials that inspire it.

Chapter 2: Alchemy - How is it created?

Craft transforms ordinary materials into remarkable objects and memorable experiences.

Every enduring object begins as a raw material, yet acquires permanence and meaning through weaving, casting, forging, polishing, firing, and finishing. This chapter celebrates the craftsmanship that transforms everyday materials into lasting, memorable design.

The Alchemy palette takes its cue from bronze, gold, stainless steel, and copper. A tribute to the metals transformed by fire and hand.

Chapter 3: Resonance - Why does it remain relevant?

The most enduring design continues to resonate across generations.

The most enduring furniture, textiles, colors, and objects don't lose their relevance with time; they gain new meaning through continued use, thoughtful curation, and changing contexts. By pairing HBF Textiles classics with contemporary introductions, a timeless palette, and objects that transcend a particular moment, this chapter demonstrates how exceptional design continues to resonate long after its introduction.

The Resonance palette takes its cue from anthracite, smoky glass, and grey walnut. A tribute to materials that hold their depth across time.

Chapter 4: Legacy - Why do we choose to preserve?

The objects we choose to preserve become part of our own story.

Some materials become richer with age, use, and continued appreciation. Patinated metals, figured wood, richly woven textiles, carved stone, and cherished handblown glass carry character that isn't manufactured, it’s cultivated over time. Crafted with care and lived with daily, these objects accumulate meaning beyond their function and are passed from one generation to the next.

The Legacy palette takes its cue from burgundy, terra cotta, bronze glass, and walnut. A tribute to the richness that only age can create.

Together, these four chapters offer a vision of design that endures - a shared belief between Davis Furniture, and HBF Textiles that great design is worth recognizing, celebrating and preserving.

From origin to legacy, the series considers how we, as designers, develop the discernment to understand what will endure. The objects and materials we choose to surround ourselves with become part of our own stories, shaping not only the interiors we create but the design culture we carry forward.
