FACTS - NSF/ANSI 336

Facts is a sustainability certification developed by the Association of Contract Textiles (ACT) to recognize contract textiles that meet NSF/ANSI 336 — the principal standard for evaluating sustainability across a commercial textile's full life cycle. Criteria span fiber sourcing, material safety, water conservation, and social accountability. Textiles are third-party certified and rated Silver, Gold, or Platinum based on the breadth of sustainability criteria met.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 for textiles is an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems (EMS) that helps manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint, such as water usage, chemical waste, and air emissions. It provides a framework for setting, auditing, and achieving sustainability goals, ensuring companies improve operational efficiency and comply with environmental laws.

OEKO-TEX® 100

OEKO-TEX® 100 is a globally recognized label for textiles tested for harmful substances. It sets the benchmark for textile safety, from yarn to finished product. Every item bearing the standard 100 label is certified as having passed safety tests for the presence of over 1,000 harmful substances to ensure human health safety.

SEAQUAL®

Made from recycled PET collected from oceans and rivers, SEAQUAL® polyester yarn turns recovered plastic into high-performance textile fiber. It's a material with a clear chain of impact: cleaner waterways, and direct support for the communities doing the work of collection.

REACH™

REACH is an EU regulation designed to make sure textiles and other consumer goods are free from hazardous chemicals that could harm human health or the environment. By complying with REACH, fabric manufacturers and importers can give consumers peace of mind that their products are safe to use. Fabrics must go through rigorous testing to make sure they're free of any substances on the REACH Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).

Local Sourcing + Partnerships

Close relationships with our weaving mills are central to how HBF Textiles develops its most signature designs. Through shared expertise in weaving capabilities, yarn selection, and color, we've cultivated partnerships with domestic weavers who bring our most distinctive textiles to life. Currently, 46% of the HBF Textiles portfolio is made in USA – with mills based in North and South Carolina, as well as Pennsylvania.

Material Innovation

Wool, linen, organic cotton, and cotton are among the rapidly renewable fibers woven into HBF Textiles designs. For any natural-fiber pattern, our goal is to incorporate 50% or more rapidly renewable content — a threshold that reflects genuine material commitment, not incidental use.Not all recycled polyester is equal. We favor post-consumer content — sourced primarily from PET plastic bottles — over pre-consumer recycled polyester, which is recovered from industrial surplus rather than diverted from the waste stream. It's a deliberate choice about where our materials come from and what their second life means.

Donating

The materials that don't make it into a finished textile still find a purpose. Development samples are donated to local universities, schools, and elderly care facilities, where they're put to use in student projects and sewing programs. Leather hides are used to produce giveaways and other products – reintegrating as much as possible.

Recycling

At our production and warehouse facility, we reuse or recycle plastic, cardboard, paper, cans, glass, metal, wood pallets, scrap leathers, upholstery filling materials and fabric tubes.

Corporate Social Responsibility

We believe the connections between our business, our environment, and our people are key to our long-term success as we make better choices today for a better tomorrow. As part of HNI Corporation, our corporate social responsibility mission drives us to respect people, reduce our impacts, and redefine tomorrow, by fostering transparency and empowering our members to do and be better. We address our sustainable objectives through careful fiber selection, buying local, third party certifications, fewer chemicals in finishes, and continually improving our manufacturing processes in our facilities.
