HBF Textiles Launches Layered by Mark Grattan

Mark Grattan has built a career on designing fearlessly for himself, trusting that authenticity will find its audience. Now, the multi-disciplinary designer is bringing his unapologetically rebellious spirit to textiles, partnering with HBF Textiles to craft the Layered collection—three patterns that embody his multifaceted creative identity, translating two decades of design practice into luxurious textiles that challenge conventional design choices.

The Layered collection took home the Interior Design HiP Award for Best Hospitality Fabric and Textiles in 2025.

Marking the designer's highly anticipated debut in textiles, this sumptuous collection features three distinctive patterns: "Creativo," "Wright," and "Decadent." Each textile invites touch while captivating the eye, offering a tactile connection to Grattan's artistic journey across New York City, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro.

"The concept reflects my approach to creative work—the many steps it takes from design to the finished product. Designing spaces and objects with depth, stacking elements, color, and incorporating repetition," Grattan explains. "It also became a symbol of my character, with the pattern names alluding to my three creative personas: the creative (Creativo), the woodworker (Wright), and the rebellious dreamer (Decadent)."

Creativo

Creativo demands touch. This sumptuous checkered velvet alternates between cut and uncut surfaces, creating a tactile landscape that captivates hand and eye. Born from Mark Grattan's signature style of repetition and contrast, the eight colorways are named after materials fundamental to his creative process—Chrome, Marble, Resin, and High Gloss Lacquer. Commercial-grade performance with 60,000 double rubs and bleach cleanability makes it perfect for statement seating.

Wright

Wright embodies quiet confidence. This refined satin textile features gentle irregularities that mimics natural wood grain variations, paying homage to Grattan's foundation as a master woodworker and maker–structured, disciplined, and patient. The colorways celebrate sacred woodworking rituals with names such as Sawdust, Dovetail, and Chisel among others. High-performing bleach-cleanable solid with luxe matte sheen elevates commercial and hospitality applications.

Decadent

Decadent is pure rebellion. This bold zebra pattern in a soft, sophisticated blend of bouclé and chenille captures dramatic contrast with fluid, organic movement. Drawing from Grattan's extensive time in Mexico and Brazil, the large-scale design marries sensory indulgence with worldly inspiration. Occasional speckles celebrate the beauty of imperfection—a hallmark of Grattan's design philosophy. Each colorway draws from experiences and objects that define grandeur in Grattan’s personal lexicon—Caviar, Copacabana, and After Hours—reflecting his appreciation for life’s most exquisite pleasures.
