BREAKING MONOTONY

West coast designer, Laura Guido-Clark, has developed for HBF Textiles a diverse collection of multi-purpose materials that breaks conventional ideas of vertical materials and upholstery fabrics. Her design concepts explore ideas of overlapping layered patterns, irregular repeats, imagery that imparts a sense of craft, and color that is fresh and energetic. The five core patterns feature 40 colorations ranging from invigorating fresh hues to grounded neutrals.

Against the Grain is a visual intersection of multiple colored yarns that create a heathered effect - a near solid that can be layered with other patterns from the collection. Crossing the Line is about the desire to break the rules, pursue many paths and create a new rhythm reflected by the diverse contrasting colored stitching against neutrals or intense hues. Forest for the Trees, the signature piece of the collection, was inspired by the shifting of value from dark to light as you scan the depths of the forest; and the excitement of spotting that one revolutionary tree to which you eye naturally travels. All three of these patterns are multi-purpose fabrics and have been approved for upholstered panel/wall applications as well as upholstery.

Completing the group are Making Waves and Turning Over a New Leaf, two new upholstery values. Making Waves is a curvy, sinuous pattern creating multiple cresting waves across the sea of the flat, plain ground construction of the fabric. Combined with a color stripe, the petals or leaf-like forms of Turning Over a New Leaf create a new dimension and different cadence reflecting the cycle of nature. Especially applicable forhigh performance areas, this fabric is also standard with a Nano-Tex® stain resistant finish.

All five patterns are a part of HBF Textiles’ environmental initiatives program and are primarily comprised of post-consumer recycled polyester fibers; MBDC Gold Certified antimony-free polyester and the European woven patterns are third party certified from Oeko-Tex®, the European environmental standard. Breaking Monotony crashes the boundaries with prices starting at $22 net per yard while incorporating superior performance characteristics.
