Interiors magazine named Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Designer of the Year in 1982 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to interior architectural design. He received an Honorary Doctor's Degree in 1987 from the International Fine Arts College of Miami and the IBD Star Award of 1987 for his achievements in the design profession.
Mr. Diaz-Azcuy travels extensively, serving as guest lecturer at numerous design seminars and conferences as well as speaking on college campuses. He has also taught summer courses at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.
As Design Principal of Gensler & Associates Architects from 1976 to 1987, Mr. Diaz-Azcuy was designer for such projects as: Levi Strauss & Company, San Francisco; Northrop Corporation and Wells Fargo. His project list contains several airport facilities including: the San Francisco International Airport and numerous showrooms throughout the USA.
In July 1985 Mr. Diaz-Azcuy opened his own design studio in San Francisco, Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Designs, Inc. His first effort for his new studio was a line of furniture designed for HBF. In the fall of 1985 the Institute of Business Designers (now known as IIDA), in conjunction with Contract Design magazine, conferred its "Best of Competition" award to this line of furniture at its annual Product Design Awards, as well as three other gold awards for individual pieces from the line.
June 1996, he compiled a ten-year anniversary collection for HBF. This group included guest and lounge seating along with a distinctive occasional table offering. Orlando has also designed several collections of contract textiles for HBF Textiles.
